В Малави в связи с кончиной президента Бингу ва Мутарика объявлен десятидневный национальный траур. Власти страны сегодня подтвердили намерение соблюдать Конституцию в определении преемника, сообщает РИА Новости.
Спустя целых 24 часа после смерти Бингу ва Мутарика секретарь в канцелярии президента и при правительстве Брайт Мсака заявил: «С горечью объявляем, что президент Малави Бингу ва Мутарика скончался. В течение 10 дней будет продолжаться национальный траур, в отношении передачи власти будет соблюдена Конституция».
Информация о его кончине появилась еще в пятницу утром, но официальные лица до сих пор хранили молчание.
Вице-президент Малави Джойс Банда взяла сегодня на себя обязанности по управлению страной после смерти президента Бингу ва Мутарика. Она заявила о том, что «Конституция соблюдена» при определении преемника главы государства.
«Как вы видите, Конституция доминирует», – сказала Джойс Банда в столице Лилонгве.
78-летний Мутарика умер от инфаркта, который настиг его в президентском дворце. Потерявшего сознание главу государства доставили в центральную больницу малавийской столицы Лилонгве, однако спасти его не удалось. «Канцелярия президента и правительство заверяют всех малавийцев и международное сообщество, что в отношении решения вопросов о передаче власти Конституция Малави будет четко соблюдаться», – отметил Мсака. Он призвал население к спокойствию.
Джойс Банда два года назад была исключена из правящей Демократической прогрессивной партии и перешла в стан оппозиции. Теперь, по некоторым данным, руководство партии стремится не допустить ее прихода к власти.
