1 февраля 2011 года в Екатеринбурге откроют памятник Борису Ельцину. Праздничные мероприятия приурочены кк 80-летнему юбилею первого президента России. Памятник будет установлен возле здания, где расположится Президентский центр.
Государственная дума в мае 2008 года одобрила закон о центрах бывших президентов РФ. В сентябре 2009 года губернатор Свердловской области подписал указ «О президентском центре Бориса Ельцина», который планируется открыть в Екатеринбурге в наступающем году.
