По его словам, на акцию протеста пришла «толпа гопников», которым «захотелось испортить москвичам праздник». Звучало также прилагательное «мажористые» — крайне комичное в устах Соловьёва, олицетворяющего прикремлённую богему ярче, чем кто бы то ни было. Он известен также тем, что длительное время олицетворял в российских СМИ «элитный либерализм» — до тех пор, пока государственная политика не начала резко меняться во второй половине 2000-х.
Комментаторы с иронией отмечают, особую истеричность данного соловьёвского выступления. Это объясняется испугом режимного агитпропа, впечатлённого размахом акций протеста, прокатившихся по стране в День России.
