Китайский правозащитник Лю Сяобо занимался изучением литературы, преподавал. Участвовал в событиях на площади Тяньаньмэнь. Возглавлял китайский ПЕН-центр.
Подписал Хартию-08, после чего был арестован за «подрыв государственной мощи» и приговорён к 11 годам заключения.
