Парламент ЮАР одобрил законопроект, разрешающий экспроприацию земель у белых фермеров в «общественных интересах», сообщает ВВС.
Согласно закону, правительство страны сможет осуществлять принудительный выкуп земель у белых владельцев и передавать их чернокожему населению с выплатой компенсаций.
Цель законопроекта — компенсировать неравенство во владении землями между белым и черным населением страны. Отмечается, что в настоящее время, даже спустя два десятилетия после падения режима апартеида, лишь 10% земель в ЮАР принадлежит черным.
За законопроект выступила правящая партия Африканский национальный конгресс (АНК), которая потребовала добиться соотношения в 30% для чернокожего населения. Против законопроекта выступил оппозиционный Демократический альянс.
По мнению корреспондентов ВВС, принятие закона не должно повлечь за собой насильственный отъем земель у белых фермеров, подобно тому, что происходило в соседнем Зимбабве.
