Министерство обороны США разработало секретный план для предотвращения попадания химического оружия Сирии в руки террористов, в котором принимают участие спецназ и ВВС, пишет газета The Los Angeles Times.
При этом в Пентагоне отмечают, что в настоящее время сирийское химическое оружие хорошо охраняется. Однако, склады химического оружия могут остаться без охраны из-за продолжающейся гражданской войны в Сирии. На этот случай американские военные и подготовили планы уничтожения или обеспечения безопасности складов .
Разведка США полагает, что сирийские вооруженные силы располагают в целом значительным арсеналом химического оружия, в том числе, сотнями тонн зарина и горчичного газа, а также собирались обзавестись газом VX.
Накануне президент США Барак Обама предупредил президента Башара Асада, что даже угроза применения такого оружия повлечет «изменение политики по отношению к Дамаску», сообщила ВВС.
Ранее сирийские представители категорически отрицали возможность применения химического оружия против оппозиционеров, а также подчеркивали, что арсеналы надежно охраняются правительственными войсками.
