Марсоход НАСА Curiosity 6 августа после шестимесячного перелета успешно совершил посадку в кратере Гейла в южном полушарии Марса. Району посадки было присвоено имя американского писателя-фантаста Рэя Брэдбери. Как ожидается, аппарат проработает на планете, по меньшей мере, один марсианский год — 686 дней.
В минувшую пятницу был впервые включен в активном режиме детектор ДАН («Динамическое альбедо нейтронов») на борту марсохода, созданный специалистами ИКИ под руководством заведующего лабораторией космической гамма-спектроскопии института Игоря Митрофанова. Прибор облучает поверхность планеты нейтронами высоких энергий, детектор по свойству потока вторичных нейтронов определяет содержание водорода, следовательно — и воды, и гидратированных минералов.
«Можно очень грубо предположить, что мы видим 1%-1,5% воды. Но это ещё нужно десять раз перепроверить. Мы еще в начале пути», — констатировал Литвак, отметив, что прибор не может отличить воду от гидратированных минералов.
Ранее сообщалось, что район кратера Гейла попадает в область с содержанием воды в грунте от 5% до 6,5% по массе. Вместе с тем, подчеркнул Литвак, пока точных данных о концентрации водорода нет: «Мы еще сличаем численные модели и результаты измерений. Можно сказать, находимся в процессе летных калибровок».
Кроме того, ученые зафиксировали колебания показаний прибора по времени.
«Пока сделано не так много измерений. Тем не менее, мы видим различия в результатах измерений и сейчас анализируем, что является основной причиной, например вариации температуры верхнего слоя грунта или изменение содержания водорода (воды)», — отметил Литвак.
Детектор ДАН разработан в ИКИ при участии специалистов ВНИИ автоматики имени Духова, Института машиноведения имени Благонравова РАН и Объединенного института ядерных исследований (ОИЯИ). Этот прибор является вкладом России в проект марсохода и одним из двух «иностранцев» среди 10 научных инструментов на его борту (второй — метеостанция REMS, созданная испанскими учеными).
