«Исходя из этих доказательств видно, что атака — это «чистой воды провокация со стороны лиц и структур, которые не заинтересованы в достижении мира на сирийской земле», — сообщил Лаврентьев. Он отметил, что, «к сожалению», все «объяснения, доводы и попытки доказать» это российской стороной «натыкаются на полное непонимание со стороны Запада».
Тем не менее, по словам Лаврентьева, «Москва будет продолжать «пытаться убедить в том, чтобы страны изменили свою позицию по отношению к правительству Сирии».

По данным правозащитников, в результате инцидента погибли по меньшей мере 86 человек, в том числе дети. США обвинили в химатаке правительственные войска президента Сирии Башара Асада. Официальный Дамаск все обвинения о причастности к химатаке отверг. 7 апреля США, в ответ на химатаку в Идлибе, нанесли авиаудар по сирийской правительственной базе Шайрат.
