Происшествие произошло на востоке горной гряды Каракорум близ ледника Сиачен на границе с Индией. Оперативной информации о судьбе военнослужащих нет.
Cнежная лавина накрыла штаб одного из батальонов. Представитель службы безопасности на условиях анонимности рассказал, что под снегом оказались примерно 130–150 пакистанских солдат.
Сход снежных лавин в гималайских горах, раскинувшихся на территории Индии, Непала, Китая, Пакистана, Бутана, не редкость. Жертвами лавин в Гималаях обычно становятся иностранные альпинисты, покоряющие вершины высочайшей горной системы Земли.
