Крупнейший швейцарский банк UBS по итогам 2008 года понес убытки в размере около 20 миллиардов швейцарских франков (примерно 13 миллиардов евро), сообщается в пресс-релизе банка.
Согласно сообщению, только в четвертом квартале минувшего года чистые убытки UBS составили 8,1 миллиарда франков. А в целом по итогам 2008 года суммарный размер убытков достиг 19,697 миллиарда франков.
Главной причиной столь неутешительного результата стали потери, связанные с рискованными инвестиционными активами, поясняется в пресс-релизе. Как известно, UBS относится к числу кредитных организаций, в наибольшей степени пострадавших от острого кризиса на ипотечном рынке США.
Чтобы уменьшить потери, руководство банка провело структурную реформу и только в четвертом квартале сократило персонал на 1782 человека, в основном за счет инвестиционного подразделения. А всего по сравнению с октябрем 2007 года численность персонала всех подразделений UBS сократилась на 11 тысяч человек и на конец 2008 года составила около 78 тысяч сотрудников. Расходы на содержание персонала за год уменьшились на 41%, что достигнуто, прежде всего, за счет сокращения премиальных.
Поскольку ситуация на финансовых рынках остается сложной, руководство UBS осторожно настроено в отношении краткосрочных перспектив и будет продолжать политику финансового оздоровления, избавляясь от рискованных активов и сокращая текущие расходы, говорится в пресс-релизе.
