Генеральная Ассамблея ООН проведет 2 августа чрезвычайную встречу для обсуждения ситуации в Сирии, сообщает РИА «Новости». Об этом говорится в официальном сообщении ООН.
По сообщениям анонимных источников, Генассамблея собирается проголосовать за резолюцию, подготовленную Саудовской Аравией, которая осуждает Совет Безопасности ООН за неспособность повлиять на президента Сирии Башара Асада.
Порицание Генассамблеи предназначено, в основном, России и Китаю, отмечают западные дипломаты. В резолюции также содержатся призывы к Башару Асаду отказаться от власти и начать в стране демократические реформы.
В отличие от решений СБ ООН, резолюции Генассамблеи не являются обязательными к исполнению.
