В День независимости Республики Ангола петербургские демократы выразили солидарность с ангольской оппозицией, сообщает портал «Закс.ру». На проспекте Чернышевского, напротив офиса почетного консульства Анголы, появились плакаты с портретами ангольских политических деятелей и надписями на русском и португальском языках: «Ангола будет свободной!», «Долой МПЛА!» (правящая партия Анголы), «Иконокласта победит!» (рэпер Иконокласта – лидер ангольских уличных протестов), «Слава Савимби!» (Жонас Савимби – исторический лидер антикоммунистического партизанского движения Анголы; убит в 2002 году), «В отставку душ Сантуша!» (президент Анголы), «К ответу Дину Матруша!» (идеолог режима МПЛА).
В последний год Ангола переживает обострение политической ситуации. В начале сентября правящий режим провёл парламентские выборы, по объявленным результатам которых президент душ Сантуш и партия МПЛА вновь пролонгировали своё авторитарное правление. Учитывая нефтесырьевой характер ангольской экономики, российская оппозиция считает ангольский режим близким правящей элите РФ и, соответственно, высказывается в поддержку оппозиционного движения Анголы. Которое действует в более трудных условиях и подвергается более жёстким преследованиям. «Демократы России солидарны с протестом Анголы» — написано на вывешенных плакатах.
