В автомобильной аварии под Петербургом погиб вице-спикер Законодательного собрания Павел Солтан.
Павел Михайлович был коренным ленинградцем, депутатом регионального парламента четырёх созывов. На законодательном поприще он занимался главным образом социальными вопросами, проблемами людей с ограниченными возможностями. Далеко не все знали, что этот крепкий с виду мужчина сам имел очень серьёзную инвалидность. В начале 1980-х, будучи двадцатилетним студентом, в результате несчастного случая он потерял обе руки и обе ноги.
В советские времена с такими увечьями вернуться к нормальной жизни было практически невозможно. Но Павел Солтан не сдался. С помощью им самим сконструированных протезов он сумел всему научиться заново, сделать политическую карьеру, создать полноценную семью.
В своё время президент России Борис Ельцин, узнав эту историю, так восхитился силой воли Солтана, что лично подарил ему автомобиль.
Павел Солтан считался одним из сильнейших кандидатов от «Справедливой России» на ближайших выборах в петербургский ЗакС. В СМИ уже появились аналитические выкладки, кому из соперников гибель вице-спикера прибавит шансов на победу.
В ДТП, которое унесло жизнь депутата, пострадали ещё пять человек. Все они госпитализированы. Некоторые из них, включая жену Солтана, находятся в критическом состоянии.
Спикер ЗакСа Вячеслав Макаров заявил, что будет добиваться тщательного расследования причин ДТП. Лидер «Справедливой России» Сергей Миронов пообещал оказать помощь семье погибшего сопартийца.
