В Ашхабаде демонтировали позолоченную статую первого президента Туркмении Сапармурата Ниязова.
Работы, начатые в июне, завершились сегодня, и жители туркменской столицы увидели пустой постамент на вершине 75-метровой «Арки нейтралитета», которую прежде венчала 12-метровая фигура первого президента, правившего страной с 1991 по 2006 годы.
Именно при нем в декабре 1995 года была принята историческая для Туркмении резолюция ООН, подтверждающая нейтральный статус государства. В этом году планируется широко отметить 15-летие нейтралитета страны.
Монумент «Арка нейтралитета» был открыт в 1998 году – в 3-хлетнюю годовщину принятия резолюции ООН. Скульптура сияющего сусальным золотом Туркменбаши с протянутыми к солнцу руками двигалась вокруг своей оси вслед за дневным небесным светилом.
К празднику Дня нейтралитета (12 декабря) исчезнет с площади и сама арка, установленная на трех опорах и символизирующая очаг (таган). Уже сегодня это – лишенный мраморной облицовки железобетонный остов.
