Боевики также взяли в заложники более 200 человек.
Отмечается, что операция началась 4 августа 2013 года в сирийской провинции Латакия. Действия оппозиционеров финансировались частными лицами из стран Персидского залива. Операцию проводили в населенных пунктах, где проживают алавиты, поддерживающие правительственный режим Сирии.
