По данным издания, операция могла проходить в рамках расследования убийства 14 августа на федеральной трассе «Кавказ» лидера бандформирования Хизира Лихова. В ходе обысков по местам его жительства ФСБ Кабардино-Балкарии получило информацию о том, что соучастники скрываются в Петербурге.
Ранее сообщалось, что сотрудники ФСБ совместно с Нацгвардией России задержали трех боевиков. Утром бойцы Нацгвардии оцепили 16-этажный многоподъездный дом на Ленинском проспекте в Петербурге. Позднее появилась информация о двух взрывах.
