Городской совет Венеции одобрил инициативу о приостановке партнерских отношений с Санкт-Петербургом, передает РИА «Новости» со ссылкой на главу комиссии по культуре венецианского муниципалитета Камиллу Сейбецци, которая является одним из авторов документа. Причиной недовольства властей Венеции принятый в Петербурге закон о запрете на пропаганду гомосексуализма.
В документе говорится, что городской совет Венеции «не может игнорировать» принятие закона, который «на практике делает незаконным написание статей, проведение мероприятий и обсуждение на публике гомосексуализма». Мэрии итальянского города рекомендовано не осуществлять никаких действий в рамках соглашения о сотрудничестве между двумя городами, подписанного в феврале 2006 года.
Ранее с аналогичной инициативой выступил городской совет другого итальянского города — Милана, однако в мэрии города информацию о разрыве отношений с Санкт-Петербургом опровергли.
