Однако поражение не лишило «Зенит» путевки в плей-офф Лиги чемпионов благодаря поражению соперника питерцев по группе, португальского «Порту». В прошедшем в Мадриде матче «Атлетико» переиграл «Порту» со счетом 2:0.
