По словам представителя иорданского министерства по делам гражданской обороны, гражданин Египта утонул, прыгнув с горящего судна. Его тело обнаружили в воде работающие на месте происшествия спасатели.
Ранее представитель компании — оператора заявил, что происшествие в Красном море обошлось без жертв. Более того, по его словам, никто из 1230 пассажиров парома не пострадал, так как их «вовремя эвакуировали на надувных плотах и шлюпках».
Паром Pella, ходивший под флагом Иордании, вез туристов в египетский курорт Нувейба. По некоторым данным, среди пассажиров могли быть граждане России, однако эта информация пока не подтверждена.
