В Петербурге в среду, 2 сентября, отправился в первый рейс с Финляндского вокзала по маршруту Санкт-Петербург — Выборг скоростной электропоезд «Ласточка».
Как заявил на церемонии запуска пригородного поезда врио губернатора Ленинградской области Александр Дрозденко, запуск «Ласточки» означает прорыв в качестве обслуживания пассажиров, а стоимость билета на скоростной поезд пока не будет расти.
Время в пути составит 1 час 15 минут. Стоимость проезда, по словам Дрозденко, в течение 1,5−2 месяцев не будет отличаться от стоимости в поезде, курсирующем ранее на этом участке. По словам начальника Октябрьской железной дороги Олега Валинского, ежедневно на этом направлении в будние дни будет ходить три пары поездов «Ласточка», а в выходные — четыре пары поездов.
В настоящее время прорабатывается также возможность запуска поездов «Ласточка» в направлении Волхова, Гатчины и Сосново.
Сейчас на Октябрьской железной дороге поезда «Ласточка» уже эксплуатируются на направлениях Санкт-Петербург — Великий Новгород, Бологое и Санкт-Петербург — Петрозаводск.
Скоростной электропоезд «Ласточка» (Desiro RUS) был разработан немецкой компанией Siemens AG. Он состоит из 5 вагонов, общая длина всего состава достигает 130 м. Электропоезд может развивать скорость до 160 км/ч.
