Президент США Барак Обама на год продлил действие американских санкций в отношении ряда руководителей Белоруссии.Соответствующий указ опубликован на сайте Белого дома. Далее он должен быть направлен в конгресс.
В документе говорится, что перечисленные в указе лица «продолжают представлять чрезвычайную угрозу национальной безопасности и внешней политике США».
Санкции, о которых идет речь, действуют в США с 2006 года, когда были заблокированы собственность и активы десяти руководителей правительства Белоруссии, включая президента Александра Лукашенко. С тех пор указ ежегодно обновляется.
С тех пор были введены санкции в отношении концерна «Белнефтехим», с заморозкой всех находящиеся под юрисдикцией США банковских счетов концерна и его представительств в Германии, Латвии, Украине, России и Китае, а также счетов представительства «Белнефтехима» в США, санкции в отношении двух действующих в Белоруссии банков иранского происхождения – «Онербанк» и «Банк Торговый Капитал» и т. д.
Белорусские власти неоднократно заявляли о необходимости отмены санкций со стороны США в полном объеме как непременном условии расширения двустороннего диалога.
