Вице-мэр Львова Василий Косив подчеркнул, что в 1941 году была истреблена значительная часть населения города, причём тюрьмы и концлагеря одинаково использовались НКВД и гестапо. «Это одинаковые по своим преступным действиям силы. Поэтому мы чтим память людей, которые невинно погибли от их рук», — пояснил Косив.
Во Львовском горсовете доминируют представители национально-демократических партий. Крупнейшей фракцией располагает Всеукраинское объединение «Свобода».
